But that is just where we are today. It all started in 2011 with a guy who had a forklift, the space, and his willingness to sling a few sacks of grain for the greater cause of beer. These humble beginnings started with only 2,000 lbs per order. But the masses could not be satiated. The group buys grew and the membership increased, morphing into the Chicago Home Brewers Group. This virtual homebrew club collectively now uses over 50,000 pounds of grain annually, countless pounds of that sticky green Humulus lupulus (hops), spices and brewing maintenance chemicals. You can find its members brewing in the City of Chicago, numerous Chicago suburbs, and a few neighboring states such as Indiana and Wisconsin.
